Shri Gopal Singh, currently serving as the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Central Coalfields Ltd., a subsidiary of Coal India Ltd. will take charge as Chairman and Managing Director of NMDC Ltd. from Shri Narendra Kothari following the required approvals and his retirement, as per our sources. His profile is appended below:

Shri Gopal Singh took charge as Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Central Coalfields Limited on 1st March’ 2012 at Ranchi. Sri Singh also headed Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL) as Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) for sometime.

Before taking over as CMD CCL, Shri Singh had successfully shouldered varied higher responsibilities such as Director Technical (Project & Planning) of SECL, CGM Kusmunda Area, SECL, etc. His earlier assignments have bestowed on him a wide exposure of the Coal Sector and given him very extensive experience in managing corporate affairs.

Born at Rohtas on 21st January’ 1961, he graduated from prestigious Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad in 1981 and started his professional career as Mining Engineer at Rajrappa Area, CCL.

He has obtained degree of M. Tech in Opencast Mining and completed MBA with specialization in HRM. During the course of his service, he worked in different subsidiaries of CIL like CCL for 21 years and SECL for 7 years by holding different level of positions in the management hierarchy before joining as Director(Technical) of SECL. He was instrumental in capacity expansion of Kusmunda Opencast mines of SECL from 6.0 MTY to 10 MTY and then up to 15 MTY. He successfully led the operation of mega projects in SECL by implementing R&R Policy and the company achieved the highest production level of 112 MT with a record profit of Rs. 3777 crores (PBT) in FY 2010-11. SECL got the status of Mini Ratna Category-I company during his tenure as Director (Technical) at the company.

He is the recipient of several awards at company as well as at national level for his valuable contribution towards the strategic deployment and management of scarce resources and exemplary performance in driving the company in high profitability during his tenure in the coal industry. He is chairman of Design Team for Balance Score Card linked Performance Management System of CIL. He is associated with various professional bodies viz. IEI, MGMI, IMEJ. He underwent training in Japan under ‘Colombo Plan’ in 1998 and led senior managers’ team to China, USA & UK for technical study of mining activities during his stay at SECL.

His rich experience in Coal Industry for more than 30 years has intermingled into his charming personality smoothly. He is a firm believer in corporate intervention in the upliftment of society in and around the coalfields encompassing CSR and philanthropic activities. In his inaugural speech he has exhorted company managers for overall upliftment and improvement of living standards of people residing in and around the working fields of CCL. In his able guidance and vision, CCL is poised to be number one company in the Coal Industry.
